UKBFF BRITISH FINALS 2010

Physical Frontiers took 6 athletes to the British Finals:
Dean McTernan (Super Heavyweight), Paul Ehren (Seniors),
Nick Halle (Heavyweight), Saf Majid (Light Heavy) Mo Naveed (Intermediates) and Maxine Betts (Body Fitness).

To be completely accurate the majority of Maxine’s prep had been carried out by Kimberely Ann Jones who did a great job in bringing Maxine to the show in such great shape.

Dean McTernan
Once again Dean had worked his arse off in the “off season” and bought a completely different package to this years finals. The diet strategies used worked a treat and without doubt Dean was in the shape of his life.

It was very apparent from the first line up that the title really came down to a straight fight between Dean and the mighty Alvin Small. Alvin has “pro” written all over him and having been so close in the past it was no great surprise that the judges had this down as Alvin’s year.

Even by his own admission Alvin wasn’t in his best ever condition this year and he remarked to Dean backstage that he had pushed him further than he thought possible and he couldn’t have complained if Dean had got the nod.

Dean was delighted with 2nd place and continues his progress towards taking the title. We were particularly pleased that all of the off season and pre contest plans had come together so well on the day and if this continues we will, once again, see further improvements and refinements at the 2011 finals. That really will be a sight to behold and should hopefully secure that precious first place.

Paul Ehren
Having placed 2nd the last 2 years Paul must be one of the most consistent athletes in the country. The question was could it be 3rd time lucky?

Once again the Physical Frontiers approach of working a per iodised routine right thru the off season and a few tweaks to the pre contest work meant that Paul had improved a few key areas without sacrificing the “Road Map” condition that has become his trade mark.

The judges score cards show that Paul picked up pretty much a clean sweep of 1st place marks and the Title finally was his own.

We have proved to ourselves this year that age really is just a number and the inevitable deterioration of a physique can not only be delayed well into an athletes 50’s but it is still possible to make improvements at the senior level.

Maxine Betts
Maxine had been working with Kimberely prior to competing in her first show which was the East of England qualifier for the Finals. Maxine took that title in her stride and was in a perfect position to really make a noise in Nottingham.

Kim was already getting Maxine in great condition, our brief was to oversee part of her training and work on a couple of areas that needed attention.

The Body Fitness line up was one of the biggest of the entire show and when the dust had finally settled over the 2 days Maxine had picked up 3rd place. This represents a really great achievement, 3rd place at your first British Finals and second ever show speaks volumes for Maxine’s ability and she is, without doubt, a future British Champion.

Working with Maxine was a wonderful learning curve for all those concerned, not least for Max herself, and if she can fully appreciate her genetic gifts and work ethic the sky is the limit next year.

Mo Naveed
In a similar fashion to Maxine this was only Mo’s second ever show having previously won the South East Intermediate (90kg) title qualifying him
For a place in the Nottingham line up.

A young athlete with huge potential Mo already carries arms, delts and legs to die for and simply needs more time at the gym for his torso to hold a similar amount of muscle density.

7th place in a line up consisting of guys with many more years of training experience on the clock was a very good result. We now want Mo to spend at least 12 months in the gym working on the Physical Frontier fundamentals and he will scare the life out of a lot of people the next time he stands on stage.

Nick Halle
Our heavyweight Nick is probably the most genetically gifted athlete of our current stable. His barn door wide shoulders taper to an almost nonexistent waist and coupled with big full muscle bellies, particularly in his upper body, Nick present a classical, aesthetically pleasing physique.

It was a generally held opinion that Nick was over looked in the line up when compared to a number of the “faces” who were present. We are aware however that Nick is still a work in progress and, once again, a consistent 12 months in the gym concentrating on areas that we have highlighted with him will produce changes that set him up for a title that is undoubtedly winnable and to turn a good Bodybuilder into a great one.

Saf Majid
Having obtained the condition of his life to take the Bedford area show, and qualify for the Britain, we all held high hopes that Saf would be competing for places. The line up proved to be outstanding and the jump from regional to national was very apparent.

We discussed the work that needs to be done to truly make a mark in this company and we are all confident that Saf has the will to put the time in and add the final amount of dense tissue that he needs.

In Summary
All in all we were delighted we the success achieved at the Finals, one Title, a 2nd and a 3rd place is a great return for the first year of Physical Frontiers existence.

Dean remains placed to take the Super Heavyweight crown next year, Paul moves on to the European Championships in June, Maxine has blown the Body Fitness division wide open and her British Title can only be a matter of time, Both Mo and Nick are exceptional athletes who simple need time to add to their already very impressive frames and Saf also needs a years hard work to bring him to the judges attention at this level of competition.

Plans have already been drawn up for each of our athletes and we are looking for a good study cruise into the Christmas period before the bomb goes off on January the 1st and everyone’s off season suddenly becomes very serious.

We long since learnt that contest prep is a year round project and every stage of the nutrition, training and recovery regimes have to be planned with the athletes goals in mind.

Roll on 2011, it should be an interesting year!!
